Leadership Studies Program Partnership

Dr. Larry Cote and John Scola, WVU graduate and LSSA’s first President

By becoming a partner with the West Virginia Leadership Studies Program and Academic Minor as an in-career leader, you can solidify your commitment to the young people we reach, and ultimately to the betterment of the state of West Virginia. You are where they hope to be someday and your knowledge and experience demonstrates valuable real world application of concepts learned in the classroom. Consider this a unique opportunity to help develop West Virginia’s greatest natural resource, our young people.

Giving Opportunities
First and foremost, we invite you to send us your “best and brightest” students with leadership potential. We also invite you to become one of our guest lecturers, or to suggest an experienced leader who could serve in such a role. By doing so, you have the opportunity to engage students by sharing your leadership experience and expertise. We have found that these experiences are extremely beneficial to the development of leadership skills in our students.

Through the Leadership Studies capstone practicum course we offer students one way to access such opportunities. An important component of the capstone course is the Leader Mentor experience. In this course students are matched with leaders for one-on-one mentoring experiences and opportunities to serve your organization and/or the community. Consider sponsoring a student in our program at your organization. Form a lasting relationship, and not only teach but learn from each other.

Also, consider making a financial contribution to the program to help us provide funding for student participation in leadership enrichment activities. If you are interested in contributing to existing endowments or establishing a support fund for the Leadership Studies Program, learning more about the value of major gifts such as scholarships, or discussing a gift in your will to benefit the Leadership Studies Program, please contact the WVU Foundation, or Dr. Lisa DeFrank-Cole, Director of the Leadership Studies Program. Contact her at (304) 293-8781 or at Lisa.DeFrank-Cole@mail.wvu.edu.

“Men make history, and not the other way around. In periods where there is no leadership, society stands still. Progress occurs when courageous skillful leaders seize the opportunity to change things for the better.”

-Harry Truman, former United States President
